What Is Meditation?

There are many types and forms of meditation but according to nccih.nih.gov, most meditative practices have four things in common; a quiet location, comfortable seating position, a focus of attention, and a willingness to let go of distractions. Creating a zen space in your home, can of course be used for other things as well, such as journaling, curling up with a favorite book, or just to relax and embrace a quiet peaceful environment.

Find the Perfect Space

First, you’ll want to consider the space that you have available. The best part about creating a calming mediation zone is that you don’t need a huge space. A small area of your guest bedroom, home office, or even a quiet window corner will work. It’s important to remember that this will be your quiet sanctuary, so you’ll want to avoid highly trafficked areas of your home that tend to be busy and noisy.

Decorate Your New Area

Now that you’ve found the perfect spot, get to work by decluttering and clearing out the space of anything that creates a busy and chaotic atmosphere. A bean bag, plush cozy rug, or a comfortable chair is a great addition to a meditation area. Choose calm tones that create a sense of relaxation. Decorate with items that bring you peace such as; your favorite plants, small statues, and crystals. This is a great time to express yourself and fill your new space with items that inspire you. Include your favorite art pieces and motivational quotes, just be sure to select soft relaxing pieces to keep your area a serene inviting space.

Include Cozy Extras

One of the biggest components to a successful mediation is having a comfortable place for your body to relax. Including cozy extras will ensure that you’ll be able to unwind and let go of unwanted stress. Including extra throw pillows, cozy quilts, and a good smelling candle will go a long way for your new sanctuary.
